Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced on Monday the new COVID-19 recovery rate for all times of using electricity services in the province for families, small businesses and farms.

The new rate is a fixed rate of 12.8 cents per kilowatt/hour and will remain in effect until October 31.

Ford also announced the extension of ban on power disconnections for residential customers until July 31.

The premier introduced a new payment assistance program which will provide support for low-income families struggling to pay their electricity bills with a one-time payment to cover electricity debts incurred during the COVID-19 period.

ford addressed the protests in the U.S. following the death of George Floyd, an unarmed Black man who died on Memorial day after a police officer knelt on his neck for several minutes in Minneapolis, Minn.

Ford said he has "absolutely zero tolerance for regretting the Black community or any other minority group," and added racism and hatred has no place in Ontario.

Ford said new testing mobile unit in Scarborough opened and will start all-day testing on Tuesday for the residents of Scarborough.
