Protests over the death of George Floyd continue to erupt across the US as the Army was put on standby.

Anger has been mounting since shocking video footage in Minneapolis on Monday showed officer Derek Chauvin with his knee pressed against handcuffed Mr Floyd's neck as he lay face down in the street after his arrest. The former truck driver, 46, below, died moments later.

Chauvin, who knelt on George Floyd's neck, was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.

Earlier Donald Trump threatened to send in the military, saying: "When the looting starts, the shooting starts."

Mr Trump's inflammatory message came after rioters had set a police station ablaze and ransacked stores in state capital Minneapolis.

On Friday, the White House was placed on lockdown as officers dressed in riot gear were ordered to control crowds gathered outside.
